About Imana Medicine
Welcome to Imana Medicine. I am Annie Rafter, an GYN Nurse Practitioner since 1976. I believe that western allopathic medicine offers good options in some health issues and not in others. In 1980 I expanded my practice to include alternative and functional medicine approaches to support your health/disease concerns that were not resolved through only allopathic approaches. I have learned much of what I know and do by researching applications that work. Our bodies, minds and spirit are all one and subjective information can be as valuable as the objective information from tests and examinations. You need time to be listened to about your experience with your body and with your health issues. We work together to investigate your problems and possible solutions. In our interaction I offer information about your health , your specific condition and also supportive preventative health practice.
The best health care occurs when you are offered a mixed approach to your issue. I use western medicine and traditional medicine with some less obvious approaches. An example of this is using the Quantum Biofeedback. Coming from a medical background, I have been working with women since graduation from nursing school in 1968. Since many women only see a gynecologist for health care, I have learned how to handle many of the medical/health issues we develop. Many of these problems occur to men as well. I do work with men on fatigue, treatments of colds and flu, Quantum Biofeedback male hormone pellets and the electromagnetic/radiofrequencies machines.

Annie Rafter
I graduated from Boston University Nursing School in 1968 and worked as a RN in pediatrics until 1970, when I shifted to Obstetrics and Gynecology. From 1970 to 1979, I was the Nurse Administrator of the New England Trophoblastic Disease Center, a Childbirth Educator and Labor Coach at Boston Lying in Hospital. Working in the Harvard Medical School Complex in Boston, I witnessed really good western medicine practices, and what it did and did not do well.
Since there were so many great doctors doing good work, I decided to focus on the problems that western medicine did not handle well. Problems such as PMS, chronic vaginitis, and other chronic medical issues that would not take your life but that would make your life difficult. This has taken me on a journey of investigating many different approaches to health issues. Along the way I have picked up some jewels that are not common to allopathic care.
In 1980 I moved back home to Maine and began to explore complementary and alternative (CAM) approaches to western medicine. After a sabbatical of 12 months to go sailing and traveling, I began an independent Nurse Practitioner Practice called “Women to Women” with Marcelle Pick, RN CNP. In 1985 Marcelle and I joined with doctors Christian Northrup and Mary Ellen Fenn and relocated to a Victorian house in Yarmouth Maine. We offered a practice run by women for women. Women to Women still exists today in the capable hands of Marcelle Pick.
In 1989 Spirit called me to Santa Fe. I worked with Dr. Trevor Hawkins until he decided to specialize in HIV treatment. In 1994 I opened another independent NP practice in Women’s Health and have been in practice since.
When asked if I plan to retire, my answer is “No”. I love working to improve people’s health and intend to continue doing so as long as I can.
David Campbell
David Campbell came to Santa Fe in 1973 to attend St. John’s College and has made it his spiritual home, in spite of having lived in a variety of locations in the US and Europe, before and since. He is a retired United Methodist pastor who put a lot of energy into counseling and youth work. He has worked in a variety of capacities including construction, farm and factory work. He has served in the USAF Security Service as a linguist in Germany, has operated his own business doing trainings in human dynamics for corporations in Finland, and has practiced and taught classes in Reiki as a Reiki Master.
Now, he is partnered with Annie Rafter and shares with her a driving interest in health for self and others, whether physical, spiritual, or intra-/inter-personal. When Annie decided recently to reinvest herself in the continuing needs of her patients instead of retiring, David came out of retirement to join her in that endeavor and help expand the opportunities available to clients through the advances in medical technology, especially with the BTL Emsella chair and Emsculpt NEO.
From his perspective, Life’s journey presents ever-expanding opportunities for discovery and revitalization … for oneself and with others. The freedom to function well physically and socially is essential to our health and happiness and at the core of Imana Medicine’s purpose.
